Conference FAQs


Q: Will there be a conference this year?

A:The MISHRM State Council is committed to providing you with world class education, access to the best suppliers via the exhibit hall and certification credits needed to grow as industry leaders.

In response to COVID-19, we have committed to moving forward with the conference. We will continue to keep you posted on whether the conference will be live or virtual. We know, either way, it will be an amazing experience.

Benefits of live: all meals are included, networking and optional attendance at all sessions during the three day conference, live exhibit hall

Benefits of virtual: Not only will you receive credit for the sessions you attend live, but you will receive the breakout sessions on-demand to watch and receive certification credit for all sessions available. Access to the virtual exhibit hall.

Q: What changes will be made to comply with Covid-19?

A: We will continue to monitor CDC and Health Department guidelines and announce all onsite standards and precautions when appropriate. We will require all attendees to follow suggested guidelines and will have clear protections and protocols in place.

Q: Where is The MISHRM 2020 State Conference & Exhibition held?

Q: Is there a dress code?

A: Business casual is acceptable at all events.

Q: Who should attend?

A: The conference has something for everyone. Seasoned professionals and also new professionals can benefit from the conference.

Q: What are the future dates of the conference?

A: After a statewide search for best rates, availability, convenience and dates for the future conference, Grand Rapids won the bid and has rolled out the red carpet! The State Conference will be held in Grand Rapids through 2023.

Q: Can I host a networking event during the conference?

A: We are thrilled that so much extra networking takes place during our conference and we welcome it. We do ask that any networking events in conjunction with the conference are not held during scheduled conference events and activities. Q: Are you accepting Chapter Ambassadors for the conference?

A: In light of Covid-19, we are currently waiting to accept ambassadors until we make a final decision on whether our conference is in person or virtual. Once we make this decision, we will be able to determine the appropriate volunteer roles and numbers of ambassadors required. We will then send out an email to chapter Presidents calling for chapter nominated volunteers for the conference. Ambassadors that have already registered will be given a partial refund for their participation and those who have not will be given a special discount code to be applied during registration.

If virtual, all educational content will still be offered. Breakout sessions will be offered on-demand and a virtual trade show will take place.

Note: Registration is non-refundable, but is transferable if you are unable to attend the live event.

Q: What is the deadline to register?

A: Early bird registration ends July 17th, 2020. You can, however, register up until September 25th, 2020. For more information click here for attendees and here for exhibitors.

Q: How can registration payments be made?

A: Registration payments can be made online when you register. If you are unable to register online or need to by check, please call the MISHRM office at 844-464-7476

Q: I can only attend part of the conference. Can someone else attend the rest of the event in my place?

A: No, the conference registration is not transferable to other friends or members of your team.

Q: What is the cancellation policy? What if there is an emergency last minute and I cannot attend?

A: The conference will be not refundable, but you can have someone else in your place. Please contact the MISHRM office at 844-464-7476.

Q: Do you need volunteers?

A: Volunteers will be solicited by Chapter leadership closer to the conference. Partial refunds will be made to the volunteers that registered at the full conference price.

Q: What if I am not a SHRM member and I want to join so I can take advantage of the reduced rate?

A: You can use the SHRM website to get more information about becoming a member.

Q: I was unable to attend a specific education session. How can I get the speakers’ handouts?

A: Speaker handouts will be posted on the conference app or you can reach out to the speaker directly.

Q: Can I go to any education sessions I want? Is pre-registration required?

A: Preregistration is not required for sessions. You can attend any session you would like to attend.

Q: How do I receive HRCI and/or SHRM credit for the sessions I attend?

A: After the conference, you will receive a survey. Upon the completion of the survey, an email will be sent to you with the HRCI and SHRM credit codes.

Q: I’d like to plan out my education schedule before I arrive. Is there a tool available to help with that?

A: Yes, this is available on the official conference mobile app downloadable from mobile app stores. The event app will be available approximately 30 days prior to the start of the conference.

Q: Where do I pick up my badge?

A: You can pick up your badge during registration hours 10/14 7:00 am - 2:00 pm, 10/15 7:00 am – 4:00 pm, 10/16 7:00am – 10:00 am outside the exhibit hall at DeVos Place.

Q: Where is the business center?

Q: I hear there’s a Silent Auction at the conference. Where is it, what items are available and who does it benefit?

A: Each chapter in the state contributes a basket for the silent auction. The silent action runs on Thursday all day during the exhibit hours 7:00 am – 4:00 pm All funds raised go the SHRM Foundation. The auction will be held in the Exhibit Hall.

Q: What is the refund policy?

A: Exhibitor booth registration and sponsorships will be fully refundable IF we move to a virtual format and you are no longer interested in the format. Instead of a refund, you can also use your 2020 booth payment and lock in your spot at the 2021 conference at the 2020 booth rates. We want to make sure you love the format and are investing in something that will work for you. Cancellation for any other reason will be refundable less a $250 administrative fee before September 1st, 2020.

Q: How can registration payments be made?

A: Registration payments can be made online when you register. If you need to by check, you can produce an invoice and bypass the payment option when you complete the registration process.

Q: What happens to sponsorships if the event goes virtual:

A: We are working with one of the best virtual event platforms and we know you’ll love the new revised options we present. If not, we will fully refund your sponsorship.

Q: What if I don’t want to participate in the virtual platform? What are my options?

A: You can request a refund OR you can keep your payment with us and roll your fees over for the conference next year.

Q: Will the virtual exhibitor booths be the same price?

A: If the conference goes virtual, the exhibitor booths will be less expense (exact amount TBD) and you will be refunded the difference... you can use the balance as a deposit for the 2021 conference.
